The first thing you need to know is the tools you can use to test your site.
The most obvious is Google Lighthouse. Lighthouse is available in Chrome Devtools.
To open Lighthouse, open the developer console in Google Chrome with Option + ⌘ + J (on macOS), or with Shift + CTRL + J (on Windows / Linux).
Make sure you are in incognito mode.

WordPress is amazing for many reasons, but speed is not one of them.
You may even make it faster, but it requires a lot of effort.
The simplest solution for having high speed helps is not to use WordPress in the first place.
Instead, build your blog on a stand-alone site using Hugo and Netlify.
The static site displays static HTML, eliminating the need for server requests, thus speeding up your site’s lightning and security.
Steps to Improve PageSpeed on WordPress
Here are the steps I took to achieve respectable pages on my WordPress site.
- Have a well-managed provider (manager: GreenGeeks)
- Buy a quick WordPress Theme (theme: Dabba)
- Press all images and use the Webp version if possible (plugin: Imagify)
- Use the Caching plugin recommended by my administrator provider. (plugin: LiteSpeed Cache)
- Clean unused goods (plugin: Asset Cleaning)
- Set up Cloudflare CDN (plugin: Cloudflare)
- Set up Cloudflare Worker (plugin: Cloudflare Page Storage)
Some Important Plugins for Improve PageSpeed on my WordPress Site
Enhanced images are a common cause of slow-moving WordPress sites. If the image files are large on your website, the longer it takes for your site to load.
Improving your images is an important step in improving the speed of your website. Enhancement involves increasing the size and compressing of image files so that they can be retrieved and uploaded very quickly.
Make sure you edit your image before uploading it to your site. To do this, you will need to decide where the image will be used and what size is required. After that you can use a tool like Pixlr to cut and save an image in very small size. Sometimes even changing the file type can reduce the size – for example, jpgs are usually smaller than png images.
1) Optimize Images
This is one of the easiest things to fix.
- Insert small images
- Customize photos with Imagify
- Make sure you never upload an image over 1000px – 1000px. I am trying not to upload more than 750px images.
Install Plugin for Optimize Your Images

Install and activate the Imagify plugin. This plugin will:

- Resize the largest image size in your settings.

B. WP Smush
Once you have installed and activated the plugin, you have two options for scanning images – using individual images and creating more image quality. You have the following options available with the WP Smush plugin:
- Smoking Individual Smoking
- Smoking Many Images
- Automatically press all new uploads.
- Set a larger image size so that larger images will be resized before uploading to your server.
- Choose to save or delete EXIF data such as camera settings, focus length, date, time and location details. For
- bloggers this option can be disabled to reduce image size.
- Enable smoking when uploading new photos. This will help automatically add all newly uploaded photos.
I was surprised to find that ShortPixel also works with PDF files, not only JPEG, but also PNG and GIF images. That’s good. In addition, it can freely produce WebP types for your images.
- Original images can be restored individually in the Media Library
- And they have a job to give back in bulk, which is a good thing.
- Another advantage of using ShortPixel is that there are no file size limits.
- Sometimes, I store images in a custom folder, but this is not a problem with ShortPixel, as it can compress images from other folders rather than the Media Library only.

2) Enable caching for Improve PageSpeed
Install Browser Storage Plugin. Excellent Third Plugin. In this step, I found a few challenges. I started with the highly recommended plugin W3TotalCache (Bluehost recommends it) but I have never had real success.
The more successful I became, the more I wanted to find my answer on my provider’s website. By enabling temporary storage on your website, your site’s data can be stored locally in temporary storage, called repositories.
This means that browsers can download your site files easily and do not have to download everything from your server every time your site is needed.
Temporary saving makes uploading your page much faster, especially when people come back to your site a second or third time. It is very easy to enable WordPress with a free plugin like W3 Total Cache.
A. W3 Total Cache
I recommend W3 Total Cache as one of the most saved word plugins for wordpress website. It’s one way to set up and forget about it that will make your site faster, use a smaller server service and create a faster user experience. Key features are listed here.

- WP Rocket provides a development experience and a dashboard for beginners to make them feel comfortable. It is not uncommon for developers to have a lot to play with within internal storage plugins. On the other hand, standard caching plugins sometimes look very difficult for beginners.
- The plugin has a very simple setup for all users.
- Data fixes are included in cleaning up your WordPress database and removing the number of resources used.
- You can upload your media via WP Rocket. This means that the images do not upload to your website until the user searches for them. Therefore the server should not install the function if it is not required.
- CloudFlare integration is offered to speed up your site even further.

- You can reload the cache.
- You get both reduction and integration tools.
- One unique feature involves the creation of Google Fonts. I have not yet seen this in some of the cache plugins I have used.

- WP Rocket is fully compatible with Kinsta’s level-caching level. So if you want to take advantage of all the features that WP Rocket has to offer you can do that.
C. WP Super Cache
- WP Super Cache has a reputation and records history to ensure that it will provide the best temporary backup services for all your websites, regardless of size.
- It is a free, open source product from Automattic. So, you know that updates will come out regularly and the plugin will not end anytime soon.
- The backend interface has many of the settings you need already completed. It is easy to understand and make it work, even for beginners.
- The plugin uses the garbage collection process, where it deletes old files from the repository so that your temporary storage process does not reduce your site in this process.
- WP Super Cache is integrated with different CDN settings for better distribution of your files.
- You have three cache options to choose from, from Simple to Supercaching. This opens up opportunities for all skill levels, because a simple cache is ideal for ordinary users, and the Supercache mode allows advanced users to speed up their sites.
- The plugin has a unique feature called Cache Builder, where the cache on your blog can be removed whenever a comment is posted. Instead, rebuild the cache and use the old page for other users.

Some other cache clear steps for Improve PageSpeed
- Clean-up Unused Assets
This step is one of the most important. Deleting. from your site what you do not need. WordPress, dependencies and plugins can add unused code to your pages. Asset Cleaning lets you select what you want to save and delete.
- Set-up Cloudflare CDN
Without Cloudflare CDN, you will not achieve your goal. Fortunately, Cloudflare has a free option for small site owners.
Cloudflare CDN delivers content to the user from the server closest to them. While my hosting servers were in Canada, users in Australia read my blog from a server based in Sydney.

- Set-up a Cloudflare Worker
The last, but not the least of all steps, was to build a temporary employee at Cloudflare. This step has helped to achieve the best results for page speed but has somewhat reduced.
Included items such as comments will not be updated. There is also a trap in the free version. When you access 100K requests, the site is blocked. You can get 10M requests for $ 5 / month.
3) Make website Mobile Freindly
Since Google makes extensive use of the mobile version of websites in its position, it is important that you think about mobile phones first when it comes to designing and speeding up your site. 4) Enable GZIP compression for Improve PageSpeed

This option is not recommended because it uses PHP to enable gzip compression. If possible, you should use an .htaccess file in Apache or IIS Manager on Windows servers to enable gzip.

5) Minify CSS, HTML & JS files

Doing this is very beneficial because it will allow your site to load more quickly, while keeping the important information needed for your site to display properly. We recommend that you can trim your JS, HTML and CSS files to WordPress quickly and easily with the free WP-Optimize plugin.
6) Update plugins for Improve PageSpeed
Plugins may slow down your site in a number of ways. Poorly designed plugins, plugins with outdated software, or surplus / duplicate plugins can all contribute to reducing website uploads.
It is worth remembering that it is not the size of the plugins that usually causes the speed problem. (That is, unless you have multiple plugins that do the same thing or are not used – in case the rest should be removed.) Generally, it is the quality and usefulness of page-speed plugins.
It is a good idea to use the Google PageSpeed test before and after installing any plugin. This will show the impact of the plugin on the speed of your site, so you can make an informed decision about whether the plugin’s functionality is appropriate for any site delays.
You can also check how the speed of your site is affected by your current plugins by disabling each one in the ‘Plugins’ section of your WordPress back-end, and then using the PageSpeed test.
You should also make sure you update the plugins when new software becomes available. Updates are always highlighted in your WordPress dashboard – just check regularly and click on any update messages to do so.
7) Clean-up your database for Improve PageSpeed
Finally, you can speed up your website with a good old spring clean!
