The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has introduced a Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) for the purpose of identifying and blocking unregistered and unregistered telephones in Pakistan. This blog focuses on those people who want to buy used and new phones that may have an invalid IMEI.
How to Check the IMEI of the Phone You Are Buying?
After giving a long break in the allotted time, Finally, the PTA sends text messages to mobile users asking for smartphone confirmation before October 20. To avoid blocking smartphones via PTA register your device.
How Can You Get the IMEI of a Used Phone?
In the meantime, when buying a new / used smartphone, be sure to check if the device is registered or not. To check if your device has a valid IMEI or an invalid IMEI, one needs to verify the device’s IMEI number from the PTA IMEI testing machine.
From there you should get the device’s IMEI number that can be made from the following methods:
- By dialing * # 06 # on your mobile dial pad.
- Device IMEI number is always printed in the box and on the device
- Hold your phone, Go to Settings> About phone> Status> IMEI details to retrieve the IMEI number.
- Another way to get the device’s IMEI number is to remove the back cover and battery of your mobile phone.
- You’ll find the IMEI inside the battery compartment (only applies to mobile devices with a removable battery option).
- To check the IMEI of the iPhone Go to Settings> General> About (only applies to iOS devices)
How can you verify if the device is real or interrupted?
After following one of the methods listed above, you will receive a 15-digit IMEI number. To verify that your device’s IMEI number is correct or incorrect, follow any of these steps.

Visit http://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/ > enter 15 Digit IMEI number > Press ‘Check’
By Dialing *8484#
Dial *8484#
Choose “Check Your Device Status”!
Enter IMEI and send! The PTA will respond shortly.
By Texting 8484
Type your IMEI and send it as a text message on “8484”. You’ll shortly receive a message.
Android application
You can check if the IMEI is compliant or not by downloading the DIRBS app on your smartphone (Guide to Verify). Now Open the app and enter a 15 digit IMEI number.
Once you send the IMEI of the device to DIRBS via the mentioned procedures above, the DIRBS system will provide status along with the model and make of that particular IMEI.
